What is Food Preservation?


Food Preservation is any number of methods by which food is kept from spoilage.Among the oldest methods of preservation are:
  • Drying
  • Refrigeration
  • Fermentation
For the modern methods, there are a few that are becoming popular. Advances in packaging material also played an essential role in modern food preservation. This includes:
  • Canning
  • Pasteurization
  • Freezing

Food Spoilage may be defined as change that alter foods that unfit for human consumption. These changes might be due to various factors including contamination by microorganisms, infestation by insects or degradatio by endogeous enzymes. There are two types of changes that might occur in our daily food such as physical and chemical changes.
